RACKSPACE TECHNOLOGY MEGA OFF CAMPUS DRIVE 2023 – ABOUT THE COMPANY

A well-known international provider of technology services, Rackspace Technology offers a variety of managed hosting and cloud computing solutions. Rackspace is well-known for its proficiency in managing services, digital transformation, and cloud solutions for companies. American cloud computing company Rackspace Technology, Inc. is situated in Windcrest, Texas, an inner suburb of San Antonio, Texas. Along with offices in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Dubai, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, Mexico, and Hong Kong, the company also maintains offices in Austin, Texas, and Blacksburg, Virginia. Amsterdam (Netherlands), Virginia (USA), Chicago (USA), Dallas (USA), London (UK), Frankfurt (Germany), Hong Kong (China), Kansas City (USA), New York City (USA), San Jose (USA), Shanghai (China), Queenstown (Singapore), and Sydney (Australia) are the locations of its data centers.

Despite starting out as end-user application developers, the founders discovered that most businesses were either unsure of how to host their applications or did not want to. The founders couldn’t find a way to outsource the hosting work, so they decided to concentrate on application development instead of hosting. The founders eventually came to the conclusion that it would be preferable to develop a product to meet the hosting needs and start a business. Richard Yoo was the CEO of Rackspace when it was founded in October 1998.

While most hosting companies concentrated on the technological aspect of hosting, Rackspace put more of an emphasis on service and support with the creation of its “Fanatical Support” offering.[5] Funding for Rackspace was granted on March 28, 2000, by Sequoia Capital and Norwest Venture Partners, the primary investors. 2008 saw Rackspace relocate its corporate headquarters from a former Datapoint Corporation building to the vacant Windsor Park Mall in Windcrest, Texas. Graham Weston, the chairman of Rackspace, was the owner of the Montgomery Ward building in the shopping center until 2006 when he sold it to a developer.

A residential and retail complex is set to be developed on 111 acres (0.45 km2) that the city of Windcrest purchased south of the mall.[8] Nearby Roosevelt High School is the facility, and many Roosevelt students work as interns at Rackspace. The first year that Rackspace applied for consideration, it was ranked No. 32 in Fortune’s “Top 100 Best Companies to Work For 2008”. The business received recognition for its openness. After raising $187.5 million through its initial public offering (IPO), Rackspace began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on August 8, 2008, under the ticker symbol “RAX”.[12]

15,000,000 shares of the company’s common stock were offered in the initial public offering at a price of $12.50 a share.[13] The initial public offering (IPO) did not perform well on the open market and nearly instantly lost 20% of its original price. On December 18, 2009, at approximately 3:45 PM CST, Rackspace experienced a disruption that affected customers utilizing their Dallas-Fort Worth data center, including Rackspace Cloud users. Rackspace gained national notice on September 8, 2010, when they announced that they would no longer be offering web hosting services to Dove World Outreach Center, one of their clients.

All hosted Exchange users (those who purchased email services from Rackspace that involved Microsoft Exchange instances hosted on Rackspace’s servers) were impacted by a significant service outage that occurred in December 2022[27]. Following an initial investigation, Rackspace called the event a “security incident” and stated that it had shut down its servers to safeguard customer data. Some analysts conjectured that this might be a sign of a ransomware incident, and Rackspace’s recommendation that customers switch to Microsoft 365 instead of waiting for their Exchange-based solutions to be restored gave credence to this theory.

In the first full trading day following the incident, which began on Friday of the previous week, Rackspace’s shares fell as much as 16% ($0.75) on Monday, December 5, 2022. In January 2003, Rackspace introduced ServerBeach in San Antonio as an affordable substitute for dedicated servers intended for individuals interested in technology but seeking dependability and flexibility. Richard Yoo was instrumental in getting ServerBeach off the ground.

In October 2004, Peer 1 Hosting—now Cogeco Peer 1—a provider of colocation and bandwidth—paid $7.5 million to acquire ServerBeach.[41] In January 2009, Peer 1 Hosting made its debut in the UK-managed hosting industry. Currently, the ServerBeach brand is in direct competition with Rackspace’s UK division, which is overseen by Dominic Monkhouse, a former managing director of Rackspace Limited.

When Mosso Inc. was established in October 2006, it conducted white-label hosting service experiments.[43] The division eventually served as the basis for Rackspace’s cloud computing offering. Webmail.us, a Blacksburg, Virginia-based private email hosting company, was purchased by Rackspace on October 1, 2007. On May 20, 2009, it changed its name to Mailtrust and joined Rackspace’s recently established Cloud Office business.

On October 22, 2008, Rackspace purchased online backup software and services provider Jungle Disk and virtual server provider Slicehost [44]. On March 8, 2017, Rackspace revealed its intentions to add managed services for the Google Cloud Platform to its existing offerings.[46] On July 18, 2017, the program launched in beta testing. A full release is anticipated in late 2017. In order to create the OpenStack Object Storage component, Rackspace donated the source code of its Cloud Files product to the OpenStack project in 2010 under the terms of the Apache License.

Rackspace declared in April of 2012 that OpenStack Compute would be used as the foundational technology for their Cloud Servers offering. Along with additional cloud services that offered databases, server monitoring, block storage, and virtual networking, this update also brought in a new control panel.[50] Two Rackspace executives were chosen to serve on the OpenStack Foundation board in 2015.[51] CTO John Engates said in a February 2016 interview that Rackspace powers its public and private clouds with OpenStack.
