In the first full trading day following the incident, which began on Friday of the previous week, Rackspace’s shares fell as much as 16% ($0.75) on Monday, December 5, 2022. In January 2003, Rackspace introduced ServerBeach in San Antonio as an affordable substitute for dedicated servers intended for individuals interested in technology but seeking dependability and flexibility. In October 2004, Peer 1 Hosting—now Cogeco Peer 1—a provider of colocation and bandwidth—paid $7.5 million to acquire ServerBeach.[41] In January 2009, Peer 1 Hosting made its debut in the UK-managed hosting industry. Currently, the ServerBeach brand is in direct competition with Rackspace’s UK division, which is overseen by Dominic Monkhouse, a former managing director of Rackspace Limited.

When Mosso Inc. was established in October 2006, it conducted white-label hosting service experiments.[43] The division eventually served as the basis for Rackspace’s cloud computing offering. Webmail.us, a Blacksburg, Virginia-based private email hosting company, was purchased by Rackspace on October 1, 2007. On May 20, 2009, it changed its name to Mailtrust and joined Rackspace’s recently established Cloud Office business.

On October 22, 2008, Rackspace purchased online backup software and services provider Jungle Disk and virtual server provider Slicehost [44]. On March 8, 2017, Rackspace revealed its intentions to add managed services for the Google Cloud Platform to its existing offerings.[46] On July 18, 2017, the program launched in beta testing. A full release is anticipated in late 2017. In order to create the OpenStack Object Storage component, Rackspace donated the source code of its Cloud Files product to the OpenStack project in 2010 under the terms of the Apache License.

Rackspace declared in April of 2012 that OpenStack Compute would be used as the foundational technology for their Cloud Servers offering.
